I wrote my last update on this in September last year (2019-70) – wow! What a downer. I ended it by saying that life can turn on a sixpence – I think this may… just may… happen.
I had a really positive conversation with my solicitor. Case law has developed somewhat regarding ‘police on the jury’ can’t say too much at this stage. There is also the very real possibility of assistance coming from a couple of other sources – also, can’t say too much.
Suffice it to say, things are now progressing much more quickly. That being said, the adjusted timeline is for the CCRC application to be submitted next year. They will most likely have it for another 18 months. If the case is referred back to the Court of Appeal – maybe, add another 12 months before the full hearing. At that point, they could do one of 5 things:
. reject the appeal;
. reject the appeal but give permission for us to take it to the Supreme Court;
. allow the appeal but substitute the conviction for a lesser one;
. allow the appeal but order a retrial;
. allow the appeal and order my immediate release.
These possibilities are still another 3 or 4 years away; by which time I will have served about 20 years … 20 years… NO! No negative thoughts.
Be happy, be safe.
