Another interesting week. We lost our keyboard player; transferred. Such is the vagaries of prison life. There is no one else, outside of the band, who is competent enough. I’m not sure of the solution.
One of the guys is a whiz at scoring music; I’m very slow. He has started putting together some string parts on Sibelius. If we can get the funding, it will be incredible to have a string section playing with us.
We only learnt 2 new songs in 2 hours this week. They were not so straight forward in terms of the time signatures. One has a 7/4 verse and the other has a 7/4 section. It gives a very insistent feel.
I also started a script. I thought it made sense to treat the performance like a play. I expect that’s how it’s done anyway. I really enjoyed this process; it brought together a lot of ideas I had regarding how the performers will be interacting with each other during each number. It will be interesting to see how this develops over the next few weeks.
Be happy, be safe.
