2019 – 38 – heatwave
It’s been another really uncomfortable summer. You’ve seen the prison films like ‘Cool Hand Luke’ where, as a punishment, the prisoner is put in ‘the hot box’ and left there for a few days. Whilst maybe not as bad, the temperature our cells reach must hit dangerous levels. Being a high-security prison, I’m sure the walls of the cells are lined with steel – ‘hot box’.
So, how do we keep cool? You can buy fans but my method are much cheaper and better – I fill my sink up with cold water and soak a t-shirt; after I wring it out I wear the cold t-shirt and let evaporation do the rest – it removes the heat from your body. It’s simple but effective science. Despite this, summers are really unpleasant in prison.
Given global warning, I wonder if it is only a matter of time before a prisoner dies in their cell from heat exhaustion.
Be happy, be safe and be kind.
