Arts Project – 2018 – 8

Hello friend,
I got a reply from the N0.1 Governor: he’s discussed the issues with the project Governor (who’s leaving in just over a week) and “asked that he progesses this to a proportionate conclusion.”

He goes on:”… you should note that the expectation inferred in your complaint will not be immediately realised. There are complex issues that have to be teased through including whether there is a desire within the establishment management structure to create the the final version you desire. At this stage my position is that the risk is not outweighed by the benefit, however, I am open to being influenced otherwise. What is appropriate is that you are provided with a copy of your personal contribution to the finished product … The edting of a DVD will not take place …”

So, there we are, nearly 4 months on from the shows and I still don’t know what’s going on; although, I can now get a hard copy of my score printed. It’s not clear whether it’s only the “editing”of a DVD or the DVD itself which “will not take place.”

All of this is really troubling: the No.1 gave his authorisation at the start of the project for all of the products to be created, including a DVD. The Arts Council application was predicated on the products he authorised; subsequently, the funding the prison received was on all of the products, including the DVD.

Is the prison now saying to the Arts Council: “thanks for the funding but all of the stuff we were going to do, we’re not going to do, now?” I’m no expert but I’m pretty sure that obtaining money through false representation is unlawful. I’m certain that this stuation was not premedtated but whoever is advising the No.1 is giving him bad advice. I don’t think they’d be in this position had the original prject Governor not left.

Be happy, be safe.
